Our Understanding of Sustainability
Climate change mitigation and, in particular, adaptation to climate change are key concerns for society. Through our strategic areas of action, we strive to contribute to climate change adaptation and be part of the solution to the challenges society is facing.
We place particular emphasis on railway construction, refurbishment of existing infrastructure, activities in the field of circular economy, and the development of specialist expertise in timber and hybrid construction.
We believe that every construction project offers an opportunity to bring about positive change.
We understand that construction is not just about erecting structures but also entails responsibility for the environment and society. That is why we attach great importance to planning our projects in a holistic and sustainable manner – with regard to the environment, people and the economy.
Sustainability Strategy & Report
Our sustainability strategy was published in June 2024. It defined our fundamental areas of action in the three core areas of environment, social affairs and governance with the following objectives:
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- Improving resource efficiency and promoting the circular economy
- Increasing the Group's social capital
The sustainability strategy is to be understood as a preparatory document for meeting the requirements of the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), to which we will be subject from the 2027/28 financial year onwards.
In the 2024/25 financial year, material, group-wide standardised sustainability data was collected for the first time in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) applicable under the CSRD and published in a sustainability statement included in the 2024/25 Annual Report.
This data forms the basis for future targets and the development of measures to achieve these targets in the area of sustainability.

Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
In June 2025, we made a commitment to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), thereby reaffirming our commitment to developing short-term emission reduction targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
The SBTi guidelines will serve as a reference as we develop a comprehensive greenhouse gas accounting system and an emissions reduction plan, i.e. a transition plan, over the next two financial years.
