Bregenz/Linz/Stuttgart, 12th of January 2018 – The Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH and Swietelsky Baugesellschaft m.b.H. were awarded the contract for rail track and systems of the new rail link from Wendlingen to Ulm. Jointly, the Vorarlberg based major project business of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group and the railway construction division of the construction group Swietelsky from Upper Austria are responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of a section of the “rail project Stuttgart-Ulm” with a length of around 60 kilometres.
Part of the contract worth around 250 million Euros is first and foremost the construction of nearly 118 kilometres slab track, 60 kilometres of which in tunnels, and 16 switches as well as the construction of 50-Hz low voltage systems, telecommunications and traction power supply. On top of that, 2.500 kilometres of cables will be installed, the mechanical equipment with ventilation systems, technical rooms and signage are taken on as well as the installation of 78 kilometres LED-handrail. The venture is part of the „rail project Stuttgart-Ulm” and will nearly half the commuting time from Ulm to Stuttgart from 54 minutes now to 28 minutes. By doing so, high speed trains will reach a top speed of 250km/h.
The project is split into two lots. The first lot includes the area in the “Albvorland” from Wendlingen to the Alb ascent between Weilheim and Hohenstadt, the second lot the Alb plateau from Widderstall to the Alb descent to Ulm. Start of the major contract, which is estimated to take 30 months, is the design phase from February 2018, building starts from 2019. During the construction phase the joint venture, where Rhomberg takes the technical and Swietelsky the commercial lead, is also responsible for the overall coordination including the coordination of signalling and overhead line installation as well as overall project logistics and construction site safety.
